Sunset Wine Roads

Winery stops aligned with sunset — for ships that stay late enough.

Duration: 4 HoursPace: RelaxedBest for: Late-departure ships when you want wine touring plus caldera sunset without a separate Oia trip

Wine Roads routing timed toward sunset at winery viewpoints — only sensible if your all-aboard allows a late return. Moderate activity with tasting stops.

Sunset timing is the differentiator from standard Wine Roads — verify ship schedule before booking.

Winery terraces can offer caldera sunset views without Oia's crowds.

Tastings included per supplier; eat beforehand.

Getting there from the cruise port

Santorini cruise ships typically anchor in the caldera rather than berth alongside a town pier. Most passengers reach shore by tender — commonly to the Old Port (Skala) beneath Fira, though some operators and larger ship deployments use Athinios commercial port with coach transfers to designated meeting points instead. Arrangements vary by ship and tour, so confirm your exact pickup and drop-off from your booking confirmation before sailing day, not from a generic port map. From the Old Port, the cable car to cliff-top Fira is the usual option, but on multi-ship days the queue can consume a meaningful slice of a short call. A steep walking path of roughly 600 steps also links the port to Fira; it is exposed, often hot in summer, and not suitable for all passengers. Donkeys have a long history on this route but are not a recommended modern choice given welfare concerns, crowding and better alternatives — treat them as historic context only. Excursions may meet at the Old Port, Athinios, Fira or other confirmed points depending on the product. Plan every day backwards from your ship's stated all-aboard time, not its published departure, and build in tender and transfer buffer on busy days.

Tips for cruise passengers

  • Do not book if your ship leaves before late afternoon
  • Layer up — sunset breezes on terraces cool quickly
  • Photography-friendly but not a dedicated Oia dome tour

Typically not included

  • Dinner
  • Extra wine purchases
  • Oia village time

Planning note

Only book when your ship's all-aboard allows a late-afternoon return.
